Katie uses only the best materials for your flute and your playing. She is constantly looking for better ways to improve the playing of your flute.

Straubinger Pads

Or S2 or Pisoni

Straubinger type pads are being installed in most newly made flutes from intermediate to custom models. Katie is one of the original Certified Straubinger Pad Technicians, having worked directly with David Straubinger. She has many years of experience during which she has learned and observed how these pads wear and settle over time and installs and adjusts them accordingly. She offers the choice of Straubinger, S2 (Pisoni) or felt pads in all overhauls. She can easily work on any flute that has Straubinger pads already installed and keeps a large inventory of replacement pads on hand.

Muramatsu pads

Katie is also Muramatsu Certified. She will make sure your Muramatsu flute is repaired and serviced with the best Muramatsu techniques and materials.

Other materials

Shims help stabilize the pads in the key cup. Well placed shims will ensure your flute is playing to it’s potential. Katie uses quality shims with skills developed over many years of experience to help keep your flute in the best playing condition.

Synthetic oils are being used on most flutes, but not all synthetic oils are equal. Some flutists have oils in their hands that react adversely to some oils. As a result Katie keeps a variety of oils on hand.

There are many places on a flute that need felt, cork or other materials to keep the flute in adjustment for smooth playing and response. Katie uses a variety of materials depending on what she feels is ideal for each situation including cork, foam, teflon tape and even felt from old beaver felt hats!
